We knew change was coming at Twitter, we just didn’t know it would involve money and that it would be this soon after Elon Musk’s acquisition of the social media platform.
According to The Verge, Elon Musk has reportedly given a directive to Twitter staff members to introduce a subscription fee for verification on Twitter Blue.
The price of freedom
“Twitter Blue is a monthly subscription that gives the most engaged people on Twitter exclusive access to premium features,” notes the platform on its website. On the Blue version, users get early access to features that are being tested, before everyone else gets the features on regular (free) Twitter.
Twitter plans to charge $19.99 for the Twitter Blue subscription. The optimal version of Twitter has additional features to the mainstream regular Twitter platform and costs a $5 per month subscription.
Once the plan kicks in, those who are already verified stand to lose their blue tick if they do not pay the $19.99 within 90 days.

On Sunday, Musk continued to make his Twitter intentions clear.

The platform is currently testing the ability to edit tweets. We’ve been waiting and will continue to hope this comes as fast as the other changes he’s introducing.
Take it or leave
Musk seems big on ultimatums as well. Employees have been requested to launch the feature by 7 November this year or… well… you guessed it — be fired.
It seems the staff change is gradually happening at Twitter and Musk doesn’t seem too worried about it. On a post about staff members who had been laid off, Musk said they had it coming… with emojis to with it. He seems to find it funny.

Vines or not
On Monday morning, musk asked his Twitter followers if they’d like Vine to be brought back or not. Let’s hope he doesn’t charge everyone for those as well.
