Universal+ has arrived, a month after Multichoice announced it would be integrating the service into DStv customers’ packages. Universal+ has movies from Universal TV, Studio Universal, E!, DreamWorks and Telemundo.
The service is free for customers on a DStv Access package or higher which leaves EasyView customers out in the cold. The service works on a tiered system, meaning Access customers won’t have access (hahaha) to all the movies and series available. Customers paying R230p/m for Compact and above will have access to the entire catalogue.
Universal not-so-plus
To use Universal+, you’ll need to have an Explora decoder or watch via the DStv app. If you don’t have either of those two things, no Universal+ for you. You’ll find Universal+ in the CatchUp tab within the DStv app.
Customers on the Access package will only have access to Telemundo content on the app. Customers on DStv’s Family package can view Telemundo, the Universal Channel and DreamWorks content. Compact, Compact Plus and Premium customers will have no limitations on their watching.

There are limitations though. If you’re trying to watch a film or series on Universal+ that appears on your standard DStv package, then it won’t be available on the streaming service. You might be thinking; “that’s ok!” – when it isn’t. Having the content on DStv’s services means you can’t watch it whenever you’d like and without ads – the entire point of having a streaming service.
Other than that, there isn’t much else to know. Customers on the relevant packages don’t need to do anything to turn the feature on. Just find it through CatchUp on the DStv app or by selecting Universal+ on your Explora decoder.
