We’re already in the middle of September, which means it’s time to speculate on October’s petrol prices. South Africa has had two months of decreases and it seems that we won’t be breaking that streak just yet, at least according to the Central Energy Fund’s (CEF) stats captured on 13 September.
As usual, we need to take these numbers with a pinch of salt. These are predictions and should be treated as such. The true prices of petrol are announced by The Department of Energy on 5 October, once it’s taken in all mitigating factors. Even so, it doesn’t hurt to get a little excited.

Here’s a complete list of the predicted changes coming next month;
- Petrol 95: decrease of 144 cents per litre (R1,44)
- Petrol 93: decrease of 135 cents per litre (R1,35)
- Diesel 0.05%: increase of 66 cents per litre (R0,66)
- Diesel 0.005%: increase of 73 cents per litre (R0.73)
- Illuminating Paraffin: increase of 7 cents per litre (R0.07)

Diesel drivers are sure to be a little disappointed. Petrol drivers on the other hand are jumping for joy. Even though we can’t place all our eggs in the CEF basket, it’s important to note that it’s usually on the nose when it comes to these predictions. Unless something catastrophic goes down over the coming two weeks, these should give a pretty good idea of what to expect in October.
