Earlier this month, Meta rolled out support for NFTs to Instagram users around the world. And there was much rejoicing. Now, the same thing goes for users who want to show off those NFTs on Facebook.
According to the company, NFT owners who have connected their wallets on either Facebook or Instagram can now proudly display them on both platforms. As usual, it’s mostly avoiding using the term NFT. Instead, users are receiving “…the ability to post digital collectables that they own across both Facebook and Instagram”. See? Totally different thing.
Does anyone like my NFTs?
You can now post digital collectibles on @Facebook and @Instagram ✨ Connect your digital wallet to either app and start sharing your #NFTs today.

We’re not being completely fair. Parent company Meta references non-fungible tokens frequently. Its preferred nomenclature just happens to be ‘digital collectable’. Posting these collectables to either Facebook or Insta will look… just like a regular post. But if the image comes from a connected wallet, it’ll also receive a little badge informing everyone that it’s collectable. You’ll have to rely on internet etiquette in order to prevent screenshots from being taken, unfortunately.
Meta is also at pains to point out that users should secure their social media accounts if there’s a digital wallet connected. It’s relatively easy to have your ape images stolen, through rather trivial means, so NFT fans will have to be on top of their game.
The feature is arriving from Meta at a bit of a strange time for NFTs. OpenSea, the world’s largest platform for selling tokens, has seen a massive drop in transactions over the past three months. The platform processed less than $5 million in transactions on 28 August this year. That’s a 99% drop from 1 May, the company’s best day for transactions this year. On that day, $405.75 million changed hands.
