Back in July, FNB launched a programme that rewarded eBucks customers with R2 per litre of petrol bought in eBucks. After the expensive month for petrol that was July, the country saw a drop in prices once August rolled around. Despite a further drop expected for the start of September, FNB is continuing the rewards for its virtual card users who buy their petrol at Engen. You’ll need to make the most of it while you can though, the promotion is ending for good at the end of September.
Goodbye, eBucks petrol rewards – you will be missed
Since its introduction, FNB’s R2 savings has only gotten better. August saw a decrease of R1.32 in petrol costs, allowing eBucks customers to earn more eBucks while reaping additional savings. September will likely see an even larger drop – around R2.30, according to the Central Energy Fund’s mid-month stats. Come 7 September – when the new prices hit stations, those extra eBucks will be more valuable than ever.

If you aren’t clued in, earning these eBucks is simple. We covered the process step-by-step in July – basically, though, you need to pay for your fuel with a virtual FNB card. There are a few other steps, so check our guide. Filling a 45l tank earns up to R90 in eBucks, which can be spent on more fuel, groceries or Takealot goodies. R90 is a drop in a bucket compared to prices everywhere, but even so. R90 is R90.
“We have seen the greatest increase in clients using their Virtual Cards for Tap to Pay payments since the start of the fuel relief programme. This demonstrates that, while our fuel relief programme continues to help our clients save against high fuel prices, it is also helping them adopt the most efficient ways to pay,” said Ashley Saffy, FNB’s head of Card business development.
