If reading that headline left you questioning what PS5 Accolades are, then join the club. Accolades were a way to anonymously let a player know they made an impact. Accolades could be given for being a ‘good sport’, ‘helpful’, or ‘welcoming’. These accolades would be displayed on your profile to show other players that you’re one of the good ones.
And Sony is set to remove the feature, despite the PS5 being so young. Why? Because no one knew Accolades even existed. Upon removing them, Sony said that not enough people used the feature, prompting its removal.
Goodbye forever
“In fall of 2022, the Accolades feature on PlayStation 5 will no longer be supported. The feature hasn’t seen the level of usage we anticipated, so we are refocusing our efforts. We encourage the community to continue to send positive messages to one another.”
But how, oh how, will you send other players a ‘thank-you’ now? You won’t. Even before accolades were a thing, gamers rarely went out of their way to send a quick ‘thank-you’. It seems a lot to ask gamers to send wholesome messages when they gain nothing in return. It didn’t help that only a few games supported the feature, and it was rarely advertised. But the feature may have garnered some more attention if gamers even knew it existed.

It’s also possible that the feature was overshadowed by the many other features the PS5 came with. Everyone was so focused on having a new console, that accolades took a back seat.
It does feel a little strange to be removing accolades so early on in the PS5’s life, or at all. It was doing no harm. And as PS5s are only becoming more available recently, there’s a chance that the feature might have had a revival. But now, we’ll never know.
