Before you ask; no. We won’t get to see Ricky Gervais in Lego form, as much as we’d really like to. That’s because Lego is releasing a set based around US TV show The Office, rather than its UK version. Considering how many more fans the US version has, it makes sense that Lego would focus on the Steve Carell-led series.
The set is a miniature version of the show’s Dundler Mifflin Paper Company offices. It’s not the entire office in the set, with only a few of the most iconic sets represented. Builders will construct the reception desk, Dwight and Jim’s desks, the conference room, and Michael Scott’s office. But the small size makes no difference to the number of references and in-jokes you’ll find hidden throughout the set’s bricks. For example, you can see Michael Scott’s World’s Best Boss mug, a fax from Future Dwight, and loads more besides. You just need to find them.
Quality, not quantity
The set comprises 1,164 pieces and stands over 7.6cm tall, 30cm wide and 25cm deep. We told you it was pretty small. But with fifteen Minifigures included, it’ll fill out the space quite nicely. The characters cover most of the show’s main cast, with a few exceptions. The biggest let-down for fans will be the exclusion of Andy, with Lego mentioning he’s off working on his ‘management skills’.
This set of The Office had to undergo an entire community vote to become a real-life set from Lego. It received 10,000 votes through Lego’s Ideas program, convincing Lego to move forward with the set’s manufacturing process. The set’s creator has been working on the set since 2014. The set went through two phases before Lego agreed on the final design.

The official set is releasing on 1 October, with a price point of $120 (roughly R2,000). It may be found on Lego’s site over here. Usually, South Africa matches the US price, with a little extra added on top, so we expect it to hit our shelves for around R2,250. It’s not cheap, but you knew that going in.
Pre-orders aren’t available before the release, so make sure you’re over there as soon as 1 October hits. Or else, wait for Greatyellowbrick (an official Lego seller) to get a set in stock. It’s best you hurry, though. Lego Ideas sets tend to sell out fast in South Africa, for some reason.
