The global Girl Gamer Esports Festival is coming to Cape Town this weekend

It’s nearing that time of the year again. The Girl Gamer Esports Festival is nearly upon us. This year the global tournament will be taking place in our very own backyard of Cape Town.

The event has been running since 2017, and is showing no signs of slowing down. As you might have guessed, the goal of the event is to promote competitiveness in the world of women’s gaming. The all-inclusive event is taking place over the coming weekend, 25 June until the 26 June at the ATK Arena in Cape Town.

“A once male-dominated field has shifted in recent years, extending acceptance to women who are equally as interested and qualified,” says Lesego Nyamane, Head of marketing at Acer.

“Female techies and gaming enthusiasts need more representation on an international scale and that’s why we and other sponsors are stepping up. The Girl Gamer Esports Festival is the perfect platform to demonstrate girls’ true gaming skills in a space free from bullying or discrimination.”

The official games of this years event will be Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, paired up with League of Legends. Plenty of partners and sponsors have also been announced with some big names mentioned on the list.

These include Acer Predator, Monster Energy, PUMA South Africa, Logitech, Intel and the City of Cape Town. If you’re a fan of Acer Predator hardware, be on the lookout for displays featuring the Helios 300, 500 and Triton 300SE.
