After canceling its physical event back in January, E3 announced it was going digital for 2022. Now, unfortunately, even the digital event has been canned. The news officially broke via Twitter.
Razer‘s PR manager Will Powers shared a tweet confirming E3’s complete cancellation for 2022. And since his tweet was posted on 31 March, we’re afraid it’s no joke.

This year’s cancellation marks the third consecutive year in which no E3 will take place in Los Angeles. Some fans believe this may mark the end of the Electronic Entertainment Expo.
The ESA says that this isn’t the case. Via IGN, the industry body confirmed that the cancellation is real. It also promised that E3 would take place in 2023, featuring “…a reinvigorated showcase”.
“We will devote all our energy and resources to delivering a revitalized physical and digital E3 experience next summer. Whether enjoyed from the show floor or your favorite devices, the 2023 showcase will bring the community, media, and industry back together in an all-new format and interactive experience.” said the ESA.
Later, the ESA added that the cancellation was needed so the organisation could “focus its resources” on the 2023 show.

Not all the news surrounding E3 is grim. Minutes after its cancellation was announced, Geoff Keighley stepped in. The industry stalwart shared a tweet reassuring fans that Summer Game Fest would continue as planned in June. So that’s all right, then. Well, except for the folks who run the now-canceled Los Angeles-based expo. They’re probably still rather upset.
