Nissan has released a range of electrified versions of their popular cars – Juke, Qashqai, X-Trail, and Townstar van – as well as a new flagship electric vehicle, the Ariya.
This is part of the Japanese car giant’s bold vision for the EV era, for which it is planning to launch 23 electric models by 2030.
“We need to write and publish the next chapter,” said Francois Bailly, Nissan’s senior vice-president for planning in the AMIEO (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe (plus Russia), and Oceania) region. He was speaking in Madrid at the launch of the six new vehicles.
EVs – good for the planet and your wallet
Nissan’s first EV, the Leaf, was unveiled 12 years ago, making the firm one of the early pioneers of electrified cars. To date, Nissan has sold 577,000 EVs globally, which have collectively driven 9.8 billion kilometres.
Nissan plans to reinject its Japanese DNA into its line-up, especially the culture’s renowned design. The halo model Ariya will come with two battery sizes, a range of 300km, and the choice of two or four-wheel drive.
These options will also apply to the new electric X-Trail e-power, which will be unveiled in April. “The new power train is 25% more powerful than an internal combustion engine,” Bailly tells Stuff.
