Oppo unveils blindingly fast 240W charging tech at MWC 2022

Today at Mobile World Congress 2022, Oppo unveiled three new charging technologies it’s bringing to market. Future Oppo and OnePlus smartphones could feature 150W Supervooc flash charge, 240W Supervooc flash charge and something it calls ‘Battery Health Engine’ (BHE).

Your first thought might be the same as ours, “Well, there goes that battery health”. But that’s where the BHE comes in. According to a press release, Oppo claims its 150W Supervooc flash charge with BHE can maintain 80% battery health after 1,600 charge cycles.

That’s double the current industry standard of 80% after 800 charge cycles. We’ll need to get our hands on this tech and test it for ourselves before we believe a claim like that.

Oppo says its Battery Health Engine will be integrated into most future mid-to-high-end Oppo and OnePlus smartphones. One lucky new OnePlus model is launching in the second quarter of this year and will be the first to ship with 150W Supervooc flash charge with BHE integrated.

It goes how fast now?

Oppo’s main attraction from today, and an industry first, is its 240W Supervooc flash charge. It’s capable of charging a 4,500mAh battery from 0% to full in around 9 minutes. That’s just silly.

There’s no mention of its Battery Health Engine to go with this one and we don’t think batteries will last 1,600 cycles when you’re pumping them with this much power. But Oppo says it uses a “specially customised intelligent control chip” and a battery safety monitoring chip. So, hopefully, nothing goes bang.
