So you want to be Batman, do you? Yeah, so do millions of other people who’d like to punch a mentally-ill clown for a living. But you have to walk the walk. Or, at least, drive the Batmobile. That’s a definite option, if you’ve got Bruce Wayne-level cash. Best of all, you won’t be wrecking the environment much.
An intrepid designer based in Vietnam, Nguyen Dac Chung, built an EV version of the Tumbler, the vehicle that scares the pants off of Morgan Freeman in Chris Nolan’s The Dark Knight. Using blueprints for the movie original, the Tumber was recreated as an ecologically-friendly EV.
Bruce’s Batmobile is better
Of course, you can’t take this thing out on the road and pancake cop cars on the evening news. You don’t have enough money for that. And Dac Chung’s electric Batmobile doesn’t actually do that. There’s no rocket assist. Because it’s an EV, it’ll accelerate plenty fast enough to keep your eyebrows raised. But it’s also lacking certain other, tank-like features.
For starters, its speed is capped at about 105km/h. You’re not allowed to terrify traffic on the highway by zipping between cars like Christian Bale in a rubber suit. It’s also considerably lighter than its petrol-driven counterpart. The electric Bat-conveyance has enough space for a single driver and passenger but it’s made primarily from acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (plastic), carbon fiber, and a tubular steel frame. It only weighs in at 600kg, and that includes the lithium-ion battery pack powering this thing. At least there are safety cameras, so you can at least attempt to park this thing safely.
This Tumbler EV is just like the Batmobile — expensive (there’s no price set yet, but it’s gonna be), hard to fix in the event of an accident, and inversely practical to how cool it looks. It’s exactly the sort of thing a billionaire with anger issues would drive around the city at night when everyone except criminals are asleep. And if the Batmobile doesn’t turn your head, there are also limited edition motorcycles to check out. The Jaeger was made with British brand Triumph, while the Supermarine… you just need to see the Supermarine.
