A few days ago we caught wind of the fact that Huawei has a new phone in the works, slated for release on the 23rd of this month. Specifically, a Galaxy Flip-esque foldable named the P50 Pocket. Past the name, shape and potentially palette offerings we didn’t know much else about it. But now we’ve gotten a good look at it thanks to a fashion outlet.
The ol’ Huawei half-fold
The outlet, Harper’s Bazaar China, shared a number of glossy pictures showing off the phone in the hands of singer and actor Guan Xiaotong. This particular model looks a little Midas-touched, gold-hued and bedizened with an interesting, if a little eccentric, flowing pattern. Fortunately, previous leaks have suggested there’ll be a few less ostentatious colour options.
Flipped shut, you can get a good look at the phone’s camera array and auxiliary rear display, both of which are circular in typical Huawei fashion. As is the appeal with these kinds of foldables, these both work with the screen closed, with the display showing notifications as well as acting as a viewfinder for the camera.
We don’t actually get a look at the main display, but we’re sure to see some leaks of that before the official launch next week. The only other thing these new pictures hint at is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner (which we’re always a fan of), though that isn’t confirmed.
Specs-wise, we’re still in the dark, though Android Authority bets we’ll see a Kirin 9000 or Snapdragon 888 as far as the SoC goes. We’ll have to wait until the 23rd for confirmation on that as well as word on pricing and availability though.
