Xiaomi has managed to comfortably fill the void left by Huawei in the smartphone market and is sitting at the top of the smartphone sales leaderboard because of it. If there’s one small thing we can fault, it’s the brand’s naming conventions when it comes to smartphones. The brand’s budget series, named Poco, only recently launched in SA.
Xiaomi’s going Poco
Now that that’s covered, the next bit will make slightly more sense. Xiaomi’s Redmi K40 Gaming Edition launched in China under that name, while launching in India as the Poco F3 GT – a fairly powerful gaming device aimed at the midrange market.
Now its Redmi K50 Gaming Edition has leaked thanks to well-known tipster Digital Chat Station over on the Chinese social media site Weibo. If these leaks are to be believed, we may be looking at another Poco phone that could make its way to South Africa.
While the leak doesn’t detail a launch timeline, we do know that it’ll feature the popular centre-mounted punch-hole display, along with ‘lift-type’ shoulder buttons. This reportedly just means that the buttons will hide themselves when not in use.
It’ll come in two options: base and Pro, and may be powered by the gaming-focused (and currently unreleased) Dimensity 7000 SoC on the base one and the Dimensity 9000 processor on the Pro.
