Samsung Galaxy S22 renders leak, with some interesting news regarding the Ultra

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

We suppose there really isn’t a place for surprises in the tech world anymore. Sorry, Tim. Images of Samsung’s next line of flagship mobiles have now leaked, and it seems like these handsets might be getting a bit of a name shake-up too.

 Samsung’s 2022 lineup

Notorious leaker @OnLeaks gave us our first look at the new line over on their Twitter feed, which they acquired from apparently reliable inside sources. Design wise, the vanilla S22 and the S22 Plus don’t look all that different from last year’s S21 range, which isn’t all that surprising. Most mobile designers seem to have found a trend they’re happy to stick to for the moment.

The S22 Ultra on the other hand stands out quite a bit. The camera bump seems to have changed from last year’s S21 Ultra and what’s more interesting is that the 2022 model has an integrated S Pen slot. The S21 Ultra had S Pen support, but not its own holder.

We think this, along with the fact that last year’s Galaxy line was distinctly Note-free, shows that Samsung’s letting the Ultra take over from the Note. Probably a sad day for Note fans but at least they’re getting something back.

According to Tech Radar, additional leaks point to the S22 Plus and Ultra models getting new names as well, those being the Galaxy S22 Pro and Galaxy Note 22 Ultra respectively. The latter of which would be a firm indicator that the Ultra series is taking up the Note’s baton.

There’s no word on internals just yet, but we’re expecting more info (official or otherwise) to start cropping up the closer we get to the beginning of next year, which is when these new handsets should make their debuts. In the meantime, we’re happy to keep messing around with Samsung’s new foldable.
