Telkom drops its 1GB, 1.5GB data package prices

Telkom

Not to be outdone by any of the country’s other mobile operators, Telkom is the latest to cut prices of its 1GB and 1.5GB mobile data packages by just enough to make it the cheapest prepaid prices.

The telecoms company announced in a press release on Monday, 6 September that it was dropping the price of the 1GB package from R100 to R80 and the 1.5GB from R140 to R90. With these new prices, the company now offers the cheapest 1GB and 1.5GB mobile packages in the country when it comes to prepaid. Of course, Rain’s data prices are still R50 per GB.

If that wasn’t enough value, Telkom’s bundles include both anytime data and nighttime data. The nights are rather late though. The nighttime data is only valid from midnight to 7am.

This makes for very appealing pricing towards the lower end of the data-volume spectrum. Not too long ago, MTN also reduced the prices of its data bundle offerings. While its cuts affected a larger number of bundles, MTN only starts to include additional nighttime data from the 2GB bundle. That makes Telkom’s bundles the best around.

The partly state-owned company will make the new data bundle prices available to all new and existing Telkom customers from the 20th of September. The new bundles will only be available as once-off purchases and will not allow recurring purchases. Additionally, you’ll need to purchase the bundle using Telkom’s *180# USSD code initially.
