While it didn’t say as much in its Tweet, the signs are pretty clear. The company’s page for the event shows off what looks to be the next iteration of the Surface Pro X, the company’s 2-in-1 ARM-based laptop. The company usually holds its hardware-focused events around this time of year. With the launch of Windows 11 being so close, what better way to show off the new OS than with new tech to go with it?
Microsoft is just scratching the surface
Another expected announcement is the Surface Duo 2, Microsoft’s next foldable smartphone. The Surface Duo didn’t receive much enthusiasm at launch. The R20,000+ price tag and already outdated specs didn’t make for a great value proposition.
According to recent leaks, the Surface Duo 2 will feature a Snapdragon 888 chipset and a rear camera array, something the first one lacked. The Snapdragon 888+ has already ousted the Snapdragon 888 as Qualcomm’s most powerful chip, so it remains to be seen if Microsoft can learn from its mistakes this time. We hope it kept the great hinge and dual displays.
We could also see upgrades to the Surface Book, Surface Studio and Surface Pro lines. The Surface Laptop was released in April earlier this year, so it’s about time for the others. We’ll have to wait and see what Microsoft has up its sleeve. We’ll be sure to bring you all the announcements on the 22nd.
