When we reported that the literal greatest and almost world-leading smartphone manufacturer, Xiaomi, was dropping its ‘Mi’ branding from its products, we were talking specifically about its smartphones. It seems it doesn’t apply to its TVs. After its annual Smarter Living 2022 event aired in India today, Xiaomi revealed a host of new products, including the new Mi TV 5X.

Xiaomi Mi TV 5X specs

The Mi TV 5X will come in three sizes, a 43in, a 50in and a 55in variant. All three of these sizes will feature a 4K HDR and 10-bit colour-capable panel. The panels are also certified for DolbyVision, HDR10, HDR10+ and Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) HDR. Honestly, that feature-set is enough to pique our interest but it gets better.

The 43in model will come with 30W speakers while the two bigger models will have 40W speakers. All three speaker sets will be Dolby Atmos and DTS compatible.

If that wasn’t enough the Mi TV 5X will be running Android TV 10 with Google Assitant and Chromecast functionality built-in. With plenty of I/O ports and wireless compatibilities, like WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0, we’re struggling to see the downside and we haven’t even touched on the design yet.

Bezel? What’s that?

With the lowest screen-to-body ratio out of the three at 95.4%, the 43in will still look like it is a window into whatever content you’re watching if you decide to mount it.

Okay so there is one small downside, they aren’t available to SA just yet. But, like most of Xiaomi’s other products, the chances are pretty good that they will arrive eventually. If you convert from Indian prices then the 43in, 50in and 55in are R6,500, R8,500 and R10,000 but we’ll expect those to change a bit when the TVs are released locally.
