New details and some specs have snuck past the closed taps of Xiaomi and dripped into our news pool. Taken from the XiaomiUI Telegram group, the display, camera and chipset specs for the potentially upcoming Mi 11T and Redmi K40 Ultra were revealed.
The Mi 11T, which was identified by its codename ‘Amber’ and model number K11R, looks like it’ll be equipped with a 120Hz display with a 20:9 aspect ratio. This would be a small downgrade from the 144Hz display of the Mi 10T but maybe that’s because Xiaomi will be using an OLEN panel instead of an LCD like in the Mi 10T.
Xiaomi says same same, but different
The display specs are the same for the Redmi K40 Ultra, identified as codename ‘Agate’ with model number K11T, which will reportedly only be available in China. The similarities don’t stop there. Both devices are said to have an unspecified MediaTek chipset. Given that the Mi 10T is powered with Snapdragon’s 865 chip, we’ll probably see these new devices ship with MediaTek’s flagship chip, the Dimensity 1200.
A key difference to note is the sizable camera upgrade that the Redmi K40 Ultra will get over the Mi 11T. The Mi 11T will, according to the leak, sport an OmniVision 64MP, supported by an 8MP IMX355 wide-angle lens from Sony and a ‘telemacro’ shooter with 3x zoom (not sure if that’s optical or digital). The K40 Ultra, which is effectively the same device under a different name, may have a 108MP HM2 sensor for its main camera and share the same supporting sensors with the Mi 11T.
From the post in the XiaomiUI Telegram group and its Twitter feed, the leak suggests that the Redmi K40 Ultra will be for the Chinese market while the Mi 11T will be for the international market. With Xiaomi officially launching in South Africa a couple of months ago, chances are good that we will see some of Xiaomi’s new ranges in our stores in the not too distant future. Although an exact date is still unknown, the Mi 10T launched in October 2020, so it could be a few months away.
We would recommend taking your daily grains of salt with this news as it isn’t from an official Xiaomi channel. XiaomiUI did get the Redmi Note 8 2021 details right and shed some light on the Mi Pad 5 launch which turned out to be accurate but still, it’s just a pinch (of salt).
