Are you prone to verbal excitement whenever someone does something completely expected? Then being a ring announcer for the WWE might just be the career you’re looking for. Normally that sort of job interview is out of reach of the typical South African but if that was the case here, we wouldn’t be writing about it.
TikTok and the WWE are looking for a ring announcer (or announcers) for the upcoming SummerSlam event in August this year. They’re looking, rather obviously, on TikTok, because what better way to hunt for talent in 2021 than to turn it into a massive marketing exercise.

If you’re excited right now, you don’t really care about the marketing aspect, and that makes sense. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of a World Wrestling Entertainment event? Except maybe as the ref in a Hell in a Cell match between Undertaker and Mankind — that’s just dangerous.
If you want in, you just need to upload your most entertaining video to TikTok using the #WWEAnnouncerContest hashtag. We assume that means entertaining in terms of commentating, we doubt your unicycle skills are going to draw much attention. According to the organisers, “The best performers will earn a trip to SummerSlam at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday, August 21, where they will serve as a ring announcer at WWE’s biggest event of 2021.”
There’s a little more to it than that, but you can find Superstar Big E explaining that here. A few winners will be announced, meaning you’ve got more than one shot at a trip to Vegas for SummerSlam. T’s and C’s may apply but if they do, they’ve been hidden from sight so far.
