Harley Davidson’s new LiveWire One is a (slightly) more affordable electric motorcycle

Harley Davidson’s first electric motorcycle, the LiveWire, led to the brand being spun off into its own company, and the LiveWire One is the first bike to issue forth from that place. Detailed by the company in a recent release, the One launches in the States a little later this month with one important improvement over its predecessor — it’s a little bit cheaper.

A real LiveWire One

Which is the ideal situation for any EV, even those of the two-wheeled variety. The original LiveWire launched with a price tag over the R400,000 ($30,000) mark, so it’s kinda nice to see this one drop that by several thousand. The LiveWire One turns up from 18 July this year starting at $22,000 (or about R315,000) — which still isn’t pocket change but it’s a hundred grand cheaper than 2019’s release.

For that reduced price, stealthy bikers are also getting an extended range — up to 235km on a charge in city traffic, according to the company, versus 178km from the original. The battery tops up, using one of the company’s DC fast chargers, to full in about an hour or to 80% in 45 minutes.

More details are expected to drop at the bike’s reveal at the Progressive IMS Outdoor Motor Show in California later this month. Don’t get too excited about ordering one, despite ongoing pre-orders — initial sales of the One are limited to buyers in California, New York and Texas for the moment.
