CD Projekt Red has given their AR RPG game, The Witcher: Monster Slayer, a release date in an announcement last last week. From 21 July, the game will be free on both iOS and Android. If you’re extra eager (and on Android) you can pre-register now on Google’s Play Store to get instant access to the game when it goes live and a starting sword that will give you extra XP on each kill.
Set before the time of witchers, Monster Slayer will see players roam around the lands (the real ones) and fight the monsters (the fantasy ones) that run rampant. We wonder where they got that idea from.
The announcement states:
“In Monster Slayer, players will see the world around them transformed into the dark-fantasy realm known from The Witcher universe. As a freshly trained witcher themselves, they will engage with location-based gameplay and advanced augmented reality features to track down and hunt bloodthirsty monsters lurking nearby.”
Although, now might not be the best time for gallivanting outside so we’ll need to see how (if at all) developer Spokko deals with the current challenge of a global pandemic.
The Witcher: Monster Slayer Go
This announcement comes a few days before WitcherCon, where CD Projekt Red and Netflix are teaming up to host a celebration of the franchise. You’ll be able to catch it live-streamed on CD Projekt Red’s YouTube channel or Twitch channel.
This event will give us some more news on the upcoming second season of the Netflix show, The Witcher: The Blood Origin Netflix’s spin-off animated show about the very first witcher and who knows, maybe we’ll see or hear some more on The Witcher 3‘s next-gen update slated for release in the second half of this year.
