Watch the Drako GTE EV drift, spin and generally slide around a frozen lake

Drako GTE

If you want to show off what your shiny new EV can do, there are worse ways than to put on a little music, stick your car on some ice and slide it around while a drone films you. That’s the tack chosen by the Drake GTE, an EV built by two rich silicon valley types, Dean Drako and Shiv Sikand.

You do you, Drako GTE

The GTE, named after Dean Drako, was made because the company’s founders couldn’t find an electric vehicle that they actually wanted to buy. So, since they had the money to just make the car they wanted, Drako Motors was founded.

And it doesn’t just look good going sideways on Colorado ice (which is where the video was filmed). The GTE runs four 225kW permanent magnet hybrid synchronous motors, one for each wheel, for a total of 1,200 horsepower, has a top speed of 330km/h (but not on ice), includes Öhlins suspension, Brembo Carbon Ceramic piston caliper brakes on the front and rear and uses Michelin Pilot Sport 4S types on its 21in wheels.

There’s a lot of power behind the vehicle but if you want one of your very own, you’re going to need to be both fast and wealthy. The Drako GTE will cost you R18 million, which is an extremely high price. But there’s also the little matter that just 25 of these vehicles will be made, ratcheting up the rarity factor way beyond the BMW i8.
