Sony is giving away Ratchet & Clank for free next month

As if we needed any more incentive not to leave our couches, Sony is bringing back its “Play At Home” campaign this March to keep you on your butt and entertained, and it’s kicking the event off by offering 2016’s reboot of the beloved action-platformer, Ratchet & Clank for free. Thanks, Sony.

Sony says: Stay home and play games!

From 1 March to 31 March, you will be able to download the game from the PlayStation Store, and keep it forever. No need to burn your way through it before the offer ends. This is a repeat move from last year, when Sony offered Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey for free. In an official blog post, Sony says that, alongside Ratchet & Clank, they’ve got “a great mix of games and entertainment offers lined up” so that you can stay safe, happy, and entertained in your home while the chaos goes on outside.

Sony says that the “Play At Home” campaign will run from March into June, which is great news if you’re a PlayStation owner. Kicking off the campaign with Ratchet & Clank, thanks to Sony, the anime streaming service Funimation will be offering an extended free-trial period to those who subscribe to the service after March 25th. This extends the standard 14-day trial by a whopping 90 days. Which is cool, sure, but not as cool as it would be if you lived in a country that Funimation actually worked in. If you’re South African, hard luck. Sorry guys.

The release of Ratchet & Clank as a free title for this period seems deliberate considering the recent announcement of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, which is set to launch in June. Perhaps this offer is to tide long-time fans over while they wait for the title, and also garner some new players who now have an opportunity to play a previous title in the series for free. Either way, it’s the first in a potential slew of free games from Sony, and who wouldn’t be pleased with that?
