Okay, so we’ve already covered the price of the PlayStation 5 this morning so this post isn’t about that. Coming in at R12,000 for the base model and R10,000 for the Digital Edition and launching locally on 19 November, those are numbers we only found out after Sony’s digital showcase. What about everything else that was announced last night? Sony dropped a load of great trailers for upcoming games and services all coming to the PS5 and despite some weird messaging and communication hurdles, we’re as excited for Sony’s next gen console as anyone else. So let’s walk through all the announcements from last night, shall we?
Final Fantasy XVI announced
We’re actually up the sixteenth entry in the Final Fantasy series, huh? Not that we’re complaining, both Final Fantasy XV and VII Remake were fantastic games. Hell, even the originally botched Final Fantasy XIV is now a powerhouse of an MMO. This iteration of Final Fantasy looks to be taking a more medieval aesthetic while carrying over familiar elements of the series such as Chocobos and the sweet, modernised combat system. It’s a great trailer, even if it does weirdly start off by saying the footage was captured on a PC emulating a PS5…
Spider-Man: Miles Morales gameplay
While we’ve known about Spider-Man: Miles Morales for some time now, last night gave us a more in-depth look at the gameplay. Seemingly very close to 2018’s Spider-Man, the trailer shows off Miles’ unique powers and abilities while giving us a look at the type of enemies he’ll be facing off against in some of those spectacular action sequences. Who would have thought that a new Spider-Man game would tickle so many people? That’s right, absolutely everyone.

Hogwarts: Legacy announced
After being rumoured for years, the full-blown Harry Potter RPG has finally been confirmed. Set 200 years before the events of the Harry Potter books, the game wisely ditches the baggage of following a particular story and will allow players to create their own character set within the Wizard World and Hogwarts itself. It looks large, bombastic and more than a little exciting even if you’re not much of a Harry Potter fan.

New campaign trailer for Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War
There’s not too much to say here other than Black Ops: Cold War looks like more of the same, dumb action-packed fun we’ve come to expect from the series. Oh, and the multiplayer alpha will be available for all PlayStation 4 players this weekend. Neat!
Resident Evil: Village gameplay trailer
My second favourite trailer from last night (after Spider-Man, duh), Resident Evil: Village is the eighth entry in the franchise and looks to be following the formula set up by the previous game. First-person horror, enemies that aren’t just zombies and loads of tense, dark corridors. Only this time, Village seems to be more connected to the greater Resident Evil universe as Chris Redfield makes an appearance in the trailer. Sign me up!

New Deathloop gameplay trailer
What happens when you mash together Groundhog Day with a Quentin Tarantino movie (or any kind of grindhouse action story), Deathloop is about an assassin caught in a timeloop and it looks both super fun and stylish.

Devil May Cry V: Special Edition
An upgraded and enhanced version of Capcom’s fantastic hack-and-slash game from last year, Devil May Cry V: Special Edition takes the original game and gives it a fresh coat of paint while also introducing Vergil as a new playable character. As expected, it both looks gorgeous, sounds incredible and is surely enough of a reason for fans to go back and play it all again.
Devil May Cry V: Special Edition will be available at launch on PS5.
Oddworld: Soulstorm gameplay teaser
An unexpected drop from last night, Oddworld: Soulstorm is closer than we thought as the weird and wonderful 2D puzzle-platformer received a trailer showing off snippets of gameplay and the story. Having the original designer, Lorne Lanning, make a return for this beloved series was clearly a good move because the game looks like both an improvement on the originals and homage to those classic PS1 games.
No release date for Oddworld: Soulstorm has been confirmed yet.
Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach teaser trailer
The small indie game that seemingly became an overnight sensation is back with a trailer that doesn’t really show off much other than the general tone of the game. There’s a creepy girl, loads of weird statues and there will be, presumably, a metric ton of terrifying animatronic creatures.

Demon’s Souls: Remastered gameplay trailer
Another launch title for the PS5, the remake of Demon’s Souls looks both visually stunning and a load of fun. Retaining the tough-as-nails gameplay loop the Souls series is famous for, I’m very excited for more people to play what was undoubtedly one the most influential yet overlooked games of the last two generations.

Fortnite on PS5
I mean, duh.
PS5 Upgrade for PlayStation Plus
While we don’t know all that much about this new service, such as how much it’ll cost and when it will properly launch, we do know that it’s intention is to bring PlayStation classics from the PS4 and drop them on the PS5 for anyone willing to pay for the subscription. Those games include: Ratchet and Clank, The Last Guardian, Infamous: Second Son, The Last of Us, Batman: Arkham Knight, Person 5, Uncharted 4, Until Dawn, Detroit: Become Human, Battlefield 1 and more as yet unconfirmed titles.
God of War: Ragnarok
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one! Ending the presentation with a massive reveal that I think very few people were expecting, God of War: Ragnarok will arrive on the PlayStation 5 in 2021. The teaser is very brief and just hints at what we can expect but that was more than enough to get everyone in the office ridiculously hyped.
