In the year 2020, it’s become very hard to not need a thermometer at very short notice. COVID-19 has reinvigorated the portable thermometer industry to such an extent that it feels like they’re the hottest accessory on the runway. Yet why take up all that extra space in your bag when you could just use a phone to scan someone’s temperature? That’s the idea Honor’s pursuing with its new Play 4 Pro, which will come with an infrared temperature sensor.
Perfect for post-COVID dating
As reported by XDA-Developers, a video shared by Honor onto their Weibo page shows the Play 4 Pro displaying some kind of reading as it’s being placed up against someone’s forehead. Unless the number is meant to indicate the amount of thoughts racing through a person’s head every minute, it’s pretty clear that it’s displaying a temperature. Honor has confirmed that the infrared thermometer will have a range of -20°C to 100°C. So also handy if you’re trying to figure out if you’re slowly freezing to death or boiling alive. Ah, the promise of technology continues to impress.
Beyond the thermal sensor, the Play 4 Pro looks to be your average midrange phone, sporting a Kirin 990 processor, 8GB of RAM, two rear cameras, 5G capabilities and a 1080p display. You could also go for the cheaper version, the Play 4 which has a MediaTek Dimensity 800 processor, 6GB of RAM and four cameras. Weird that the basic model has more cameras but the processor is noticeably less powerful so that explains why it’s been labelled as the entry level version.
A thermometer on your phone would be kinda cool though, we guess? Maybe we’re not all rushing around and actively scanning people’s foreheads but it’s still a little cool that if you wanted to you could very well do that.
