Who doesn’t enjoy the feeling of commanding an entire empire of underlings as you law waste to ancient civilisations? It’s a universal feeling of joy, we think. But those who have tried to do it in the past have failed because… global domination is kinda hard. So hard that most don’t ever attempt it. It’s a good thing we have the Total War series around to get us close to that feeling of conquering everyone. Better yet, you’ll soon be able to take over Troy for absolutely free in the latest Total War Saga game.
Going back to what history academics usually refer to as yonks ago, Total War Saga: Troy will take players to the Mediterranean Bronze Age, were they’ll be tasked with resolving the ongoing conflict between Troy and Mycenaean Greece, otherwise known as the Trojan War, otherwise known as that one war where a big wooden horse was used to give everyone a big fright. The Trojan War is the furthest back the Total War franchise has ever ventured.
Total legend
The Total War Saga spin-off series was designed to offer a tighter, more focused Total War experience while still allowing players the empire building and massive scale conflicts they’ve come to expect without the fluff that can bog down strategy gameplay. “TROY explores this legendary conflict from both the Greek and Trojan perspectives, peeling back the layers of myth and legend to reveal the realities that may have inspired them,” reads the game’s description.
The best part about this whole thing? When the game launches on 13 August later this year on the Epic Games Store, it’ll be free for everyone for a full 24 hours. After that, it’ll remain an Epic Store exclusive for a year before being available on Steam.
