Super. Charge. Turbo. All words that bring to mind a motorised vehicle flying by quick enough to demolish a building on impact (note: Do not try that at home). Combine them and you’ve got Xiaomi’s new Super Charge Turbo fast-charging system for smartphones, a setup the company reckons will get you from 0 to 100(%) with a 4,000mAh battery in just 17 minutes. Which sounds like just the thing needed when you forget to charge your device the previous evening.
The 100W Super Charge Turbo fast-charger seems to be able to crank through a full battery charge cycle in less time than it takes to hit the shower and make some coffee, according to a video released by the company.

The video was first shared to Chinese social network Weibo by Lu Weibing, the GM of Xiaomi’s Redmi spinoff brand. It demonstrates what Xiaomi’s Super Charge Turbo tech is supposed to be capable of: A total top-up of a smartphone battery from 0% to 100% in just 17 minutes. It’s being compared to competing brand Oppo’s fast charging, which takes a smaller battery to just 65% over the same time period. That’s still a quick time but 100% is considerably larger than 65%, if we remember primary school right.
Sadly, that’s as far as we get when it comes to the technology. Xiaomi hasn’t announced which devices might be getting the tech, nor has it mentioned when it might appear. It could be that there are still some kinks to be worked out before it’s a viable consumer technology. Still, it — or something like it — should be along soon.
