MTN South Africa, along with every other business, has suffered major blows in the fight against load shedding. The company estimates the total value lost to load shedding is R695 million, according to the group’s annual results for 2022. Taking on Eskom (and debts) “Power supply in South Africa was an ever-increasing risk through 2022 with 208 days of load shedding – 146 of these in H2. This impacted not only network availability but also some business functions, which hampered our customers’ ability to recharge and upgrade their packages,” said MTN. Despite the losses, MTN said it would continue with…

Xbox is a no-show for E3 2023 After Nintendo’s departure from the biggest gaming show in the world, Xbox confirmed to IGN last week that it would be following in the Japanese giant’s footsteps. Kinda. While Nintendo has pulled itself from the show entirely, Xbox will still be attending in a somewhat muted manner for E3 Digital. The confirmation came soon after Microsoft announced its own annual Xbox showcase would take place on 11 June, with a separate Starfield show still in the works. The timing of which is surely no coincidence, what with E3 taking place from 13 to…

Even though HBO isn’t available in South Africa, we haven’t fallen deaf to the news of the company’s recent content purge of HBO Max, its own streaming service. Hundreds of movies and series that’ll never see the light of day because… well, there isn’t a good excuse why. If we had to guess, we’d bet that money is involved. One of those projects is Batman: Caped Crusader, an animated series from the minds of JJ Abrams, Matt Reeves, and Bruce Timm. So, why are we even talking about this? Well, Caped Crusader isn’t dead yet, with Amazon confirming that the series…

For many, subtitles are a necessity. Whether you’re hard of hearing or your mouth is stuffed full of Doritos, humanity in general needs them. Hell, even without the Doritos, we can’t hear what’s being said anymore. Anyone that disagrees, try and watch Christopher Nolan’s Tenet without any subtitles. Provided the bland story doesn’t compel you to turn it off first. Tenet aside, Netflix recently began rolling out a global update to TVs that’ll allow subscribers to customize subtitles via the TV app. And for once, South Africa isn’t the last to be brought up to date. Despite only announcing the…

Those familiar with the original Resident…

So, you’re in the market for a streamer, huh? Well, you’ve come at a good time. Even though most TVs worth their salt come pre-loaded with streaming apps and features, you want more. That’s great because streaming devices are everywhere in 2023. They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, too. Dongles, sticks and set-top boxes dominate the scene and for good reason. In most cases, these devices share the same content, with the only difference being performance, features and most importantly – price. These are all things you need to consider before spending your hard-earned cash. Buyer’s remorse…

Game South Africa has entered the load shedding game. We don’t mean stealing their customers’ power, we already have Eskom for that. Rather, it is adding a variety of Magneto power stations to its shelves. The cheapest of which will set you back R3,000, with the most expensive option costing R10,000. The retailer has noted a significant increase in customers desperately looking for power stations, gas stoves and inverters to keep them going when the lights are off. Game saw a gap in the market for those who either cannot afford generators or aren’t allowed to set them up. Stuff…

We’re not sure about you, but we often find ourselves a part of groups that we have no business being in. Even two, three or ten years after the final message was sent, the group makes a home at the bottom of your archived chats and is promptly forgotten. Or you just don’t care and exit groups the second they stop being relevant. Either way, it’s a problem we won’t have to deal with any longer, with WhatsApp’s ‘expiring groups’ feature. Self-destruct in… First spotted in the WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.5.0.70 by WABetaInfo, users got a look at expiring…
