WhatsApp is officially launching Communities today, with Mark Zuckerberg confirming the update has begun rolling out. We first heard the news of Communities in April, followed up by a quiet beta in August. Since then, WhatsApp has kept the feature close to its chest. That changes today. Bringing groups together We all know what WhatsApp groups are. More often than not, they’re filled with far too many people, making your phone go ‘PING’ every five minutes or so. Communities are like that on a far larger scale. Just be ready to have your fingers hovered over that mute button. Communities…

Another day, another power station in trouble. Eskom has confirmed that unit 1 of Kusile power station is offline. While unit 1 was already offline and scheduled for repairs, a critical failure caused the unit to be deemed unusable for months. That’s right. Months. Unit 1’s ‘chimney’ or flue gas duct, responsible for dispelling the sulphur dioxide, “failed on the horizontal rubber expansion joint as well as the compensator whilst the unit was on forced shutdown for Flue Gas De-sulphuration recirculating pump repairs.” Bye bye, Kusile #EskomMediaStatement Duct (chimney) failure shuts Unit 1 of Kusile Power Station pic.twitter.com/rOd614tOR9 — Eskom…
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II has teamed up with… *checks notes* Burger King. This isn’t a forever thing though. It’s a promotion – something we’ve seen many times before. Offer some exclusive in-game features to accompany a separate purchase, and watch the money roll in. Fortnite did it, and CoD does it with countless other brands. Now it’s Burger King’s turn. Remember, no garnish This time around, certain burger combos will come with a free BK Operator skin, with an additional one hour of double XP to use within Modern Warfare II. The promotion is running for the entirety…
Amazon Prime members are still behind the curve when it comes to music streaming. That may or may not be about to change, depending on how strongly you feel about controlling what you listen to. Previously, Prime members had access to a library of two million songs from its Apple Music platform. After today, members have access to Amazon Music’s entire library, which gives full, unrestricted access to 100 million songs, all ad-free. But there’s a catch. There’s always a catch. Every day I’m shuffling This upgrade to the library comes at a price. From here on out, shuffling is…
If you’re still stuck playing Elden Ring on a PS4, it may be time to start a new playthrough on a PS5. No, we aren’t giving you one – PS5s don’t grow on trees. But, buying your own may be a little easier soon. And Sony feels confident that we’ll lap them all up. Sony Group Corp reported that it had its single biggest financial day since 2017, after stating that production of the latest batch of PS5s exceeded their expectations over the past quarter. Now, it’s setting itself a new goal for the new fiscal year – selling over…
Last week, Stuff got to witness the launch of Telkom’s 5G services. The launch left plenty to the imagination, only announcing that the service had launched and would first be hitting homes before launching as a mobile network. Then subsequently unmark those calendars and take your business elsewhere. Congratulations! Apple could bring its new M2 Macbook Pros out in March If your heart was set on grabbing an M2-infused MacBook Pro before the year was over, we’ve got some bad news for you. Apple had originally planned a set of 14 and 16in M2 MacBook Pros for a Spring release this year. This is no longer happening according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Gurman cites Apple’s tendency to avoid January and February, focusing on March releases in recent years. Paired with the expected release of macOS Ventura 13.3 in March, Gurman believes an announcement from Apple is imminent in the…
There used to be a time, not so long ago, when purchasing the physical edition of a game actually meant something. Sometimes you’d find bonus content, a map or two, and most importantly, the game itself. Activision doesn’t seem to have gotten that memo. Today, you can lay hands on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, both digitally and physically. Problem is, the physical version is empty. Well, that’s not true. It has 72MB worth of data on there, which is basically just an authenticator that lets you download the game digitally. And we haven’t even reached the worst part…
It took seven months, a dropped lawsuit and $44 billion dollars to get Twitter into the hands of its new owner, Elon Musk. The will-they-won’t-they aspect of the purchase grew old quickly. Finally, it’s over. The deal officially closed yesterday, making Twitter’s ex-owners $44 billion richer. Musk’s first course of action after running the ship was to remove ex-CEO Parag Agrawal, and three other top executives within the company, according to people close to the deal. Since Agrawal’s dismissal, Twitter is without a replacement CEO. Let that sink in Entering Twitter HQ – let that sink in! pic.twitter.com/D68z4K2wq7 — Elon…
Here’s yet another Eskom update that’s bound to garner more than a few eye rolls. At a public forum yesterday (27 October), the power provider discussed its updated Transmission Development Plan (TDP). The takeaway? South Africa needs at least 53GW of new energy within the next ten years to maintain the grid and keep the economy afloat. That’s… a tall ask. Consider the Medupi and Kusile power stations. Eskom has spent the last fifteen years trying (and failing) to add 9GW of generating power to the grid. This won’t be cheap There is a slight consolation here. Of the projected…
