The Xbox Game Camp, which got its start on the African continent in 2023, returns for a second edition of the “free, exciting 2-day celebration and conference about the art of video game development.” Microsoft confirmed the return of the conference yesterday, where it officially opened registration for the event. “The event aims to recognize and celebrate all game creators across more than 50 diverse African countries and regions and will run on July 16-17, 2024,” Microsoft said. If you’re in the mood to be recognised by Xbox, you’ll need to register for the event — and keep your fingers crossed…

With Geoff Keighley’s Summer Games Fest and Microsoft’s Xbox Game Showcase planting their feet firmly in June, PlayStation is getting its kicks in a little early, officially announcing a new event going live at midnight, technically falling on 31 May for any interested South Africans. The event, a State of Play — a noteworthy difference from PlayStation’s usually larger Showcase events — is expected to be roughly 30 minutes long and will be streaming in the usual places (YouTube and Twitch) and, surprisingly, on TikTok. X.com has been unceremoniously left out, despite the platform’s streaming abilities. We’ll also throw the…

You are officially out of excuses to go and vote when the time comes on Wednesday, 29 May. Uber South Africa has announced that it’ll be offering ride discounts on the day, all in the hopes of getting more people out of the house and through the doors of their local ballot booths. There is a catch, however. There’s always a catch. Uber Cool “We’re committed to helping to ensure that transport isn’t a barrier to making your mark,” the company said. That’s all well and good, but it’s worth mentioning that Uber is only offering this discount — which…

Samsung might unpack the Fold and Flip 6 on 10 July Samsung is a creature of habit. January or February are usually reserved to allow the company’s flagships time to bask in the glow and soak up as much money as possible before it dips back into hibernation before July rolls around. There aren’t many things better than Jonathan Blow’s puzzle-platformer masterpiece, Braid. We can list a few, though. Self-medication, sliced bread, and Braid, Anniversary Edition, the game’s claim to fame fifteen years later. When the news first got out that Braid was getting the remaster treatment, we couldn’t help but roll our eyes. Having taken on the brilliant time-twisting mechanics again after the fact, however, we’ve changed our tune. A smorgasbord of Braid, Anniversary Edition Braid, Anniversary Edition is certainly the definitive edition of the title. You’ll still get a whole lot out of the 2008 original, especially if there’s a copy already sitting in your Steam library,…

X.com, formerly known as Twitter, Elon Musk’s grandiose attempt to make the world like him again, is making a big change to the app’s core feature set. The social media platform confirmed that it will make ‘likes’ private in a ploy to motivate users to let their true selves shine through online — without any fear of personal persecution in their private lives. Likes go bye-bye Yeah, we are making likes private. Public likes are incentivizing the wrong behavior. For example, many people feel discouraged from liking content that might be “edgy” in fear of retaliation from trolls, or to…

The Internet in South Africa can be confusing. Whether it’s choosing from the million-or-so ISPs around the country when it comes to picking a home internet package, or something as simple (in theory) as deciding on your smartphone’s data package. MTN South Africa is combatting an issue it helped create with the launch of MTN Yellow, a ‘simplified’ approach to mobile connectivity within the country. Rather than bombard customers with the usual influx of confusing terminology, high prices and limitations, Yellow is designed to be an affordable package that bundles mobile data and talk time into a single, simple-to-follow and…
