You can’t compile a list of the best survival horror games these days without including Dead Space. When the original game launched in 2008, it received praise from critics and anyone else who could stomach a playthrough. Its sequels Dead Space 2 (2011) and Dead Space 3 (2013) went on to do as well, if not better. So, in 2021, when developer Motive announced that a remake was in development during EA Play Live with an eerie teaser trailer, fans of the series (us included) held their collective breaths. Today that wait is over. We’ve spent the last few days…

In the current economic climate, buying a new laptop when it isn’t strictly required isn’t at the top of everyone’s list. Rent, other bills, and food probably take preference over upgrading your still-functional laptop. But laptops don’t last forever. Accidents happen. And children are expensive. Before you rush out to buy the cheapest machine you can find, there are two questions you need to ask yourself: what do you need it to do and what can you do without? While affordable laptops have improved in recent years, there’s only so much you can get for R10,000 and under. Those after…

Surprisingly, there aren’t many companies interested in the (admittedly niche) market of folks willing to put their lives on the line filming dangerous stunts. But catching near-death action on camera isn’t the only use for these gadgets. Maybe you want to know what your dog is up to while you’re away or where your cat goes when it wanders off (spoiler: it goes to murder things). Strap one of these to them and wonder no more. Got shaky hands but still want to film things like family outings? This collection of action cams will take that duty out of… well,…

It’s usually around this time each year that gyms begin to recover from the influx of new members. Some people, armed with a list of resolutions and the determination a new year brings, realise that a whole year of working out is loads harder than it seemed when they drunkenly agreed to it at a New Year’s Eve party. Perhaps you’ve told your friends and family this is the year you’re getting into shape. You were just joking last year and the one before when you said something similar. This is the year. This is your year. The only problem…

Samsung Display, a subsidiary of the South Korean conglomerate, has unveiled a new bit of tech. The subsidiary is responsible for — you guessed it — developing and manufacturing the screens for most of Samsung’s devices and even some iPhones. While those have largely remained unchanged, this new one has a cool party trick – it can rotate all the way around. Someone at Samsung saw The Karate Kid recently The new display, dubbed ‘Flex In & Out’, relies on a new type of hinge that features a waterdrop-like design. This is what allows folding in two directions. According to…

Twitter’s paid-for premium subscription Blue returns to Android devices a month following its reappearance on iPhones. While it remains $8/m (R140/m) for web users, Android subscribers will have to pay the same price of $11/m (R190/m) as iOS users. This is, supposedly, to offset the commission fees that the respective app stores charge and totally isn’t just so Musk can regain his position as ‘World’s Most Overvalued Person’ after losing an estimated $200 billion towards the end of last year. More money for Musk Twitter Before you get excited at the prospect of a little blue ‘verified’ checkmark next to…

The Department of Small Business Development recently released a statement announcing it has begun work to ease the burden of load shedding for small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) through what it is calling an “energy relief package”. Unfortunately, the press statement didn’t elaborate on how these packages would work, how SMMEs were meant to apply, or what, if any, criteria would need to be met. Those secondary details will “be announced soon.” Hopefully while there are still SMMEs left in the country. Relief for SMMEs coming soon™ “SMMEs are particularly hit hard by continued power outages. Since many cannot…

The WhatsApp team has obviously decided on a slow start to 2023. Or maybe they’re taking the ‘get the easy stuff out the way for a sense of accomplishment so the bigger tasks don’t seem as daunting’ approach. That’s… one way of doing it. We’ll admit we got a little excited when we first saw the update from WABetaInfo. We thought it might be one of the updates we were looking forward to this year, like making transferring chat history between Android smartphones easier. We’ll have to keep waiting because this ain’t that. WhatsApp with all the updates? The newest…

Last night, 17 January, Apple launched new 14in and 16in MacBook Pro models and Mac Mini models featuring the company’s new M2 Pro and Max SoCs (system on a chip). These are the first new Apple products of 2023 and they certainly won’t be the last. The company didn’t make as big a deal with this product launch as it usually does. The announcement came via a simple press release and a pre-recorded video published on YouTube. The MacBook Pro, now more ‘pro-er’ Apple hasn’t changed the design of the new MacBook Pro models from the M2-toting 13in model announced…
