Nintendo’s got some explaining to do. Like where the next 3D Mario is, or why the Virtual Boy costs $100. The Japanese institution’s first Direct of the year is pencilled in for today, but don’t expect any answers anytime soon. For one thing, this is a Partner Direct, meaning third-party devs will get the spotlight. Sorry, Mario.
Cut to the chase, Nintendo
If we’re lucky, we’ll soon have more concrete news about a proper peek into what’s going on behind closed doors at Nintendo HQ in a first-party Direct later this month. But in the meantime, Switch 2 owners have quite the stacked menu to look forward to, with a deeper look at From Software’s The Duskbloods potentially on the cards.
The company has promised a meagre 30 minutes of footage comprising a mixture of Switch and Switch 2 titles. The stream, which will be broadcast on the company’s YouTube channel and the Nintendo Today! app that still hasn’t found its way to South Africa. We’ve also embedded the stream below to make it easier to find.
According to prominent insider NateTheHate2 (who confirmed weeks back that the Direct would take place today), gamers can expect to see Final Fantasy VII Rebirth turn up with a brand-new trailer and a release date. He mentions that Square Enix is internally planning for a summer (SA winter) release date for Rebirth on Switch 2. We’d be surprised if Capcom didn’t turn up with another look at Resident Evil Requiem, too.
To tune in to Nintendo’s first Direct of the year, you’ll want to gather around the nearest screen with a functioning internet connection by 16h00 SAST. Or, if you’ve got better things to do, you can always hit up Stuff tomorrow for a recap of the biggest announcements and reveals.
