Nobody likes a price hike, especially when a few extra bucks per month is the only thing standing between you and the last episode of Stranger Things. For once, the latest company to attempt to glean those few extra bucks isn’t one of the usual names, but rather Crunchyroll, the home of anime pretty much anywhere in the world.
Take a bite of the Crunchyroll
Now that Crunchyroll’s December deal has you convinced that you can’t live without regular access to anime (barring Naruto), the service feels the time is ripe to hit you up for an increase. All three subscriptions — Fan, Mega Fan, and Ultimate Fan — are vying for a $2 hike everywhere, though SA is only privy to the first two.
The cheaper of the two, the Fan tier, will rise from $8/m to $10/m. For Saffas, that equates to a roughly R15 increase, taking the tier from a meagre R40/m up to R55/m. It removes ads, offers full access to the entire Crunchyroll library (shortly after airing in Japan), and allows for only one device to stream at a time.

The Mega Fan tier offers everything above, and bumps the number of devices that can stream simultaneously up to four. It also offers access to the streamer’s ‘Game Vault’, something the company feels is worthy of the new R65/m pricing, up from R50/m previously. This, for the anime fans with friends, is still the ideal subscription.
For newbies, the hike has already taken hold on the Crunchyroll sign-up page. The old heads already forking over a portion of their salary every month will have ’til 4 March 2026 to either get out or face the music. The anime streamer is currently offering 25% discounts on a yearly plan, too.
