Hot on the heels of yet another update to its ‘courageous’ but buggy redesigned app, Sonos held its Q3 earnings call late on Wednesday, 7 August where CEO Patrick Spence announced the company would be delaying two new product launches scheduled for Q4 this year to focus on cleaning up the app.
While Spence said the company’s Ace headphones were big contributors to the company achieving “year over year revenue growth” and “results that slightly exceeded [their] expectations” in Q3, he also mentioned the growth was “overshadowed” by issues relating to the redesigned app.
Sonos enjoys its slice of humble pie
As a result of its disappointing app redesign and all the problems it brought, Spence says he and his team “have a clear action plan to address the issues.”
“I speak for everyone at Sonos when I say that our #1 priority is to make this right and ensure that the next chapter is even better than the previous ones.”
We’re sure Sonos fans will be thrilled to hear they’ll soon regain access to features Sonos ditched with the new app – like being able to edit your queue. However, the tradeoff is that now we’ll have to wait slightly longer for the new products Sonos had planned to launch later this year.

“We believe our focus needs to be addressing the app ahead of everything else,” Spence said. “This means delaying the two major new product releases we had planned for Q4 until our app experience meets the level of quality that we, our customers, and our partners expect from Sonos.”
One of those new products was almost certainly going to be a new flagship soundbar with the codename ‘Lasso‘, as revealed by The Verge‘s Chris Welch in July. When it does eventually launch, it will be with more powerful bass, Bluetooth audio playback (finally), and “completely new speaker technology.” When that will be hasn’t been confirmed yet.
