Poco may not officially grace South Africa’s shelves, but the company’s latest X8 Pro may be worth looking into. Specifically, the Poco X8 Pro Iron Man Edition, rivalling only Realme’s love of a good special edition phone. This one trades the boring boxes typical for a smartphone and goes for gold iron with a Stark Industries briefcase.
As if you needed any convincing
As far as smartphones go, this one is pretty good. A 120Hz-capable 6.9in AMOLED (1.5K) peeks out from the body, while MediaTek’s Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset sits beneath the surface. It’s joined by 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of storage. a 6,500mAh battery accompanied by 100W wired charging completes the picture.
Essentially, it’s the same as any regular Poco X8 Pro you’re likely to find, though its RAM and storage config have been bumped to the max. Customers are dropping an extra $100 for the incredible dark design, teeming with gold accents, and even a custom Iron Man-themed OS skin, unavailable to buyers of the regular device.
As if the phone wasn’t enough already, Poco’s gone all out on the accompanying accessories, too. A Marvel-looking SIM ejector comes in the box, as does an “armour-like protective case.” We’re not so sure about you, but smothering this gorgeous phone is tantamount to a crime. Then there’s a custom data cable — red, of course — to accentuate the whole Iron Man look the X8 Pro is going for. Oh, and the box, too, is one for your shelves.
The device was officially unveiled yesterday, launching with a $400 (∼R6,650) price that we imagine can only skyrocket if you’re serious about bringing one over. It was joined by the Poco X8 Max, though with a distinct lack of any superhero sauce to drown out the boring externals.
