When Acer first made its intent to build several of its monitors in South Africa known, we’d hoped to see lower prices compared to those arriving through the company’s standard shipping corridor. We’re seeing the effects now, with Acer offering its 27in Nitro VG270 monitor on sale, with a free TV box thrown in.
The free TV box in question is Acer’s own AiTV Box, which we called a “serious challenger with gaming ambitions” when compared to the likes of Xiaomi’s own TV box. Once the king of the market in South Africa, Acer’s AiTV Box toppled it off its pedestal, albeit with a higher price tag of R1,500. But if it’s free…
It’s a deal

Before we go any further, we should mention that the deal is exclusive to Computer Mania (both online and in-store), and will come to an end on 23 March — or while stocks last. The monitor, usually costing R4,000, is currently going for R3,500. That’s nothing to scoff at, especially when there’s a R1,500 TV box on the line.
You could say the same for the 27in Nitro VG270, which boasts a 240Hz refresh rate. Its FHD IPS panel tops out at 300 nits of brightness, with a 1ms response time to boot. It’s not going to spit out the most glorious graphics known to man, but it’ll do a decent job with an overqualified refresh rate. Consoles don’t go past 120Hz anyway.
“The response to our locally produced monitors has been fantastic,” says Bobbi Nyamane, marketing manager at Acer Africa. “To celebrate this success and our partnership with Computer Mania, we wanted to give something back. This bundle is about more than just gaming; it’s about providing a complete digital lifestyle solution, from 240Hz esports performance to 4K streaming.”
