It seems Lenovo missed an opportunity to go even weirder (weirder than this, we mean) at MWC this year. We’re talking about the Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2, which leaked just a few days before the show kicked off. While the tablet hasn’t been officially announced, famed leaker Evan Blass has turned up new images of the device.
Lenovo Tab Plus JBL
Yeah, that’s a speaker dominating the tablet’s rear. Specifically, a ‘JBL 9-unit PRO’ speaker system, if the initial leaks from iF Design are anything to go by. It’s accompanied by a silver ring that serves as a built-in kickstand surrounding the speaker system. If the thought of sparing your arms doesn’t get you in a Netflix-watching mood, you’re probably better off sticking with a regular TV.
We’ll have to wait until Lenovo’s official unveiling (or another leak) before we get a peek inside the thing. We’ve got a pretty good idea of the outside, however, with the Tab Plus Gen 2 sporting a 12.1in 2.5K display — 1in larger than the first tablet. Judging by Blass’ images, the device supports an active stylus. It’s unclear whether one will be included out of the box, though the first tablet’s contents don’t fill us with hope.
The leaks also gave us a look at a couple of accessories, hopefully included in the initial purchase. There’s the ol’ see-through case that’ll be yellow before you can even blink. More enticing is the handbag-like carry case, with a cut-out meant to give the speaker system room to breathe. It seems that Lenovo has also ditched the 3.5mm audio jack, which was present in the last-gen tablet.
Blass, unfortunately, didn’t provide any indication when we might see Lenovo’s creation come to market. Now that the leaks are beginning to pile up, it could be an indication that an official announcement isn’t far off.
