There’s a good reason the Honor Magic V6 has arrived only seven months after its predecessor, the Magic V5. We think. It’s something to do with Honor not having any big tricks this time, opting instead to focus on those core elements that make foldables less obviously attractive than something more traditional: battery and thickness.
What magic is this?
The rest is about the same, especially on the outside, where the unfolded 7.95in inner display stares back at you from the mostly untouched design. The same 50MP, 64MP telephoto, and 50MP ultra-wide camera setup lives on the back of the device, which is, admittedly, impressively thin at 8.75mm folded and 4.0mm thin when open. That’s only for the white model, though. The red, black, and gold colourways will throw an extra 0.1mm.
The Magic V6 has also made the jump to an IP68/69 rating, hopefully alleviating any concerns about this being a dainty little device. The screen itself is scratch-resistant, Honor said. Both screens sport an LTPO 2.0 AMOLED panel that should have no trouble with the claimed 120Hz refresh rate. The outer screen goes a little brighter at 6,000 nits peak, while the inner display clocks in at 5,000 nits (peak).

The leap to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (and 16GB RAM) was expected. The 6,600mAh battery tucked inside was not. How Honor crammed in a larger battery than Samsung’s own flagship S26 Ultra remains a mystery. And that’s just the international model. The China-only release of the Magic V6 will be kitted out with an even more impressive cell, coming in at around 7,000mAh. Maybe we’ll get that for the Magic V7 in a year.
We’re of course talking about the royal “we”, because it’s highly unlikely South Africa will get a turn to play — at least at first. The Magic V5 turned up on our shores eventually, so the same may happen for the Chinese company’s newest foldable attraction. Or it might miss us entirely. Pricing, at the time of writing, is still under wraps at Honor HQ.
