It’s been some time since Sony gave the world its WF-1000XM5 earbuds, which means that the WF-1000XM6 in-ears are due. Just how ‘due’ has been indicated by the still-unofficial buds appearing online in surprising detail.
An online retailer has detailed Sony’s upcoming headphones, a misstep that was captured by folks over at Reddit. Some of the feature set and images of the gadget were outed, giving us a fair overview of what Sony has coming down the pipeline.
Wascally WF-1000XM6
The known features for the Sony WF-1000XM6s are those you could have guessed with a fair shot at being correct. Ambient modes, an IPX4 rating, and active noise cancelling would be more remarkable if they didn’t appear in Sony’s upcoming in-ears. Still, that’s all the Power Buy retail leak seems to indicate. Driver and battery data are absent, as are any software tweaks the Japanese company might have inbound when these headphones become official.
There’s a comprehensive look at what Sony has planned, design-wise, at least. The battery case is slimmer, more vertical, and features sharper edges than before — possibly because the last two of its premium in-ears had a tendency to roll if the surface they rested on wasn’t completely flat. A textured plastic finish, in either white or black, and at least three external microphones per earpiece are also in the offing.
Rumours have previously indicated that Sony was planning a premium headphone launch sometime this month. The retail leak suggests that this… could well happen. We’ll remain vigilant (or irritating, so Sony tells us early what’s actually going on).
