Petrol and diesel prices for February face a respectable fuel price cut this week. With only a couple of days left to us before the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) publishes the official fuel price adjustments, the Central Energy Fund (CEF) has stepped in with yet another batch of predictions to put our minds at ease. Fear not, Saffas, for the price of petrol and diesel is still headed down.
Petrol’s on a roll, folks
What the final adjustments will look like, nobody knows. The DMRE typically publishes the official changes a day or two ahead of the adjustments at the pump — which falls on the first Wednesday of the new month. That means this coming Wednesday, 4 February, by the way. You’ll want to hold off visiting the nearest station ’til then.
As ever, the figures below are not final and are subject to change. The CEF, in conjunction with the DMRE, tracks those economic factors most responsible for influencing the price of fuel locally. That means the average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate, as well as the average price of oil products internationally. The Rand, which continues to strengthen in the face of a weakening Dollar, is the driving force behind the over-recovery.
However, as oil prices continue to rise internationally, it has somewhat marred the potential for a much larger over-recovery, with the CEF’s early figures in January teasing a R1+ price cut for both petrol and diesel drivers. That’s no longer the case — with the figures below coming much closer to the final product, whatever they may be.
We’ll find out soon enough, anyway. Check back with Stuff to find out the official petrol and diesel price adjustments that await South African motorists this week Wednesday.
