Far Cry 3 is easily the best of a pretty bad bunch, but it’s an especially disappointing affair in 2026. That has nothing to do with the gameplay — it’s not like Ubisoft has innovated in this franchise since — but because the game is held back by the limitations of the time, with even the ‘Classic Edition‘ struggling on modern hardware. Cryptic tweets from Ubisoft all but confirm that a 60fps-refresh is headed for Far Cry 3 and others later this week.
Far Cry 60?

If your emoji speak is a little rusty, allow us to break it down for you. “Far Cry + Tree + six-tea + Frame + Pair + Second”. You get the idea. The games getting the 60fps treatment later this week include Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon, and Primal. These arrive roughly a year after the fourth game received a similar update for next-gen consoles, and well after each game’s initial release date. Primal dropped in 2016, for instance.

Another post, this time showing a clip of the best Far Cry game running at a silky 60fps, affirmed that an update was officially on the way for the current-gen consoles, though PS5 players will have to pick up the ‘Classic Edition‘ for nearly R500 if they want to take advantage and dive back into the Rook Islands. A similar post turned up confirming a 60fps for Blood Dragon was coming, too, though nothing more concrete about Primal as of yet.
All three updates are currently set to drop tomorrow, 21 January, and will be free to all owners of the game on current-gen consoles. Ubisoft, for all its many faults, has proven a shining example in the industry, consistently providing its customers with quality-of-life updates long after other developers would have abandoned ship.
