For whatever reason, Oppo felt it prudent to introduce the Oppo A6 Pro 5G to the world before the regular A6 lineup. The company’s budget series has broken cover overseas, offering 4G and 5G flavours to entice users on both ends of the budget spectrum, and leaving the Pro to cover its mid-range bases.
Oppo’s back on the budget train
The Oppo A6 4G and Oppo A6 5G are nearly identical, down to the rear dual camera setup and IP69 water- and dust resistance. They share 6.75-inch IPS LCDs (720×1600) that’ll have no trouble hitting 120Hz and 900 nits of peak brightness. Both can be picked up in Sapphire Blue colourways, while the 4G variant claims Aurora Gold and the 5G model adds Sakura Pink to the mix.
Where the two differ is in their innards. The cheaper Oppo A6 4G, for instance, skates by with a Snapdragon 685 chipset, while the A6 5G mimics Samsung’s latest budget-beater by throwing a Dimensity 6300 in there. 4GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM is available for the 4G device, though the 5G can up that to 12GB. Available internal storage caps out at 256GB.

To make up for the poor chipset offerings, Oppo has filled the void with a 7,000mAh battery and 45W wired charging on both devices, which could increase the price. Inviting even more comparisons to the Galaxy A07 is the 50MP main sensor in the rear, joined by a 2MP monochrome sensor and an 8MP selfie shooter.
Oppo hasn’t revealed an official launch date or pricing at the time of writing. It’s unknown whether it’ll make it to South Africa when that happens, but after the A6 Pro 5G got its start locally back in November, we bet it will. When it does, you can expect to see the devices tempt users with a R4,000 to R6,000 price.
