To an outsider, you might think that CES’ halls are only packed with robot vacuums toting some AI powers. Sift through all that, and this year’s convention’s more interesting ideas — like Lego’s Smart Brick or Lenovo’s Legion Pro Rollable laptop that can transform from a regular 16in notebook into a 23.8in powerhouse in a second.
Lenovo’s on a roll
Lenovo’s no stranger to the wackier laptop concepts at CES. It was only a year ago that the company showed off the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable, and it’s only built from there. Now, Lenovo’s experimenting with a laptop display that stretches horizontally in seconds. It only made sense to stick it onto a gaming machine– we don’t see it gaining much traction elsewhere. Even if it won’t find a place on your desk, you’ve got to admit it’s cool.
It employs Lenovo’s PureSight OLED display and cosplays an overqualified workhorse in ‘Focus Mode’, which simply means it’s confined to the 16in (16:10) look. Hit the button, and it’ll expand to ‘Tactical Mode’ at 21.5in (21:9). Do it again, and the screen completely unfurls to reveal the 23.8in (24:9) display that boasts a 240Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time.

Seeing as this is just a proof of concept (for now, anyway), the internals under the hood likely won’t reflect the real deal by the time it’s ready for shelves. Either way, Lenovo’s stuffed in an Nvidia RTX 5090 mobile GPU and an Intel Core Ultra 9 processor according to TechRadar, which got hands-on time with the device at CES.
Until Lenovo can figure out how to implement this at even a somewhat affordable price, we can’t see the company spending all that much time on it. Gamers, too, or should we say “esports athletes”, will probably be better off investing that extra dough in a proper esports display for the time being.
