The advent of ‘trifolds’ has sparked a new obsession for tech geeks who have more money than sense. Huawei was the first to stick the tech on shelves with the R50,000+ Mate XT, and Samsung wasn’t far behind, announcing its Galaxy Z TriFold only last week. And now it seems that Xiaomi’s first crack at the idea will be out to play soon.
There’s a Xiaomi Trifold in the Mix
A report from Xiaomi Time (via GSMArena) reckons that the rumoured trifold device — which has been on our radar since at least August 2024 — has arrived for certification at the GSMA (Global System for Mobile Communications Association), joining two other Xiaomi foldables that could make their debut in 2026.
The device will allegedly be dubbed the “Mix Trifold”, in keeping with the company’s foldable lineup. It apparently bears the model number 2608BPX34C. We didn’t learn any specifics about the foldable, other than it is targeting a Q3 2026 release, while both of Xiaomi’s other foldables will likely release in the first half of 2026.
Previous rumours and leaks do give us a rough idea of the design that Xiaomi has opted for, such as the patent that leaked back in 2024 (via GSMArena). Assuming it hasn’t undergone a major transformation (which is possible considering it’s been over a year since the leak), it will feature a folding mechanism similar to Huawei’s.

If the rest of the rumours are true, the Xiaomi Mix Trifold could turn up featuring a triple-camera array and an 8-series Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. Whether the Mix Trifold can match the 5,600mAh standard both Huawei and Samsung have set so far remains to be seen, though a smaller battery certainly wouldn’t fly with most buyers.
