Days after the under-new-management DStv slashed decoder prices, upgraded certain customers to ‘Premium’ for the weekend at no cost, and expanded coverage for Africa’s biggest footballing tournament, the pay-TV broadcaster revealed its ‘Thol-iUpsize’ campaign, upgrading active decoder packages at no extra cost until 1 January 2026.
“What we’re doing with our Upsize campaign is part of a bigger value reset at DStv,” said Byron du Plessis, MultiChoice CEO. “We’re focus
ed on making DStv more accessible and rewarding, with affordability and customer experience at the heart of our strategy.”

Starting yesterday, 10 November, all Compact and Compact Plus subscribers now have access to the Premium bouquet of channels, while the Family and Access customers are upgraded to Compact. As for those already footing the Premium bill, these customers will receive two extra streams for free. DStv makes it clear that “no action is required from customers and normal billing resumes in January 2026.”
Like the recent ‘Open Time’ trial run, the campaign is only available to active decoder customers, leaving no additional benefits to those who subscribe to the broadcaster’s streaming package. Since Canal+ entered the picture, the company has worked to get DStv back in SA’s good books (and to convince them to buy decoders again).

While available to decoder subscribers, DStv noted that “new subscribers, reconnections, customers on contracts, and those paying annually,” could also get in on the action. It’s worth noting that active decoders can record ‘upsized content’ not available on your current package. ‘Catch Up’ content will not change during this period.
“Together, these initiatives, from Thol-iUpsize and decoder price cuts to the AFCON 2025 broadcast, show the progress we’re already making. DStv and CANAL+’s combined scale makes it possible to give customers across Africa more choice and better value than ever before,” du Plessis continued.
