South Africa is due yet another petrol and diesel price decrease this November, if the latest round of predictions from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) are to be believed. Considering the CEF’s history when it comes to fuel prices, it’s safe to get a little excited about the prospect of cheaper prices across the board come November.
Last week, we reported that South African motorists were looking forward to a sizeable 40c/l decrease for petrol prices this November, while diesel drivers would get away with a smaller (but still welcome) drop of around 10c/l. After the CEF’s latest projections (captured 10 October), we’re looking at a decrease of 60c/l and 25c/l, respectively. That’s… big.
Remember, remember, the fifth of November
We should remind readers that the CEF’s figures (found below) aren’t final and are subject to change. The CEF, in conjunction with the DMRE, tracks those economic factors that influence the price of fuel locally, offering daily insights into how the country’s fuel prices are faring, and allowing residents to plan ahead.
The DMRE (Department of Mineral Resources and Energy) is the entity officially responsible for adjusting the country’s fuel prices — typically on the first Wednesday of the new month. In this case, that’ll fall on Wednesday, 5 November, with the final decision likely being made on the last Friday of the month — 31 October 2025.

The factors that can influence the price of fuel are the average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate, as well as the average price of oil products internationally. Fortunately, throughout October, the price of oil has continued to fall, finally settling on roughly $65/barrel last week after a rough September, which led to a minor ‘over-recovery’ (price decrease) for all petrol and diesel products in SA.
The CEF’s projections below account for oil’s decreasing prices globally, thus allowing it to predict larger price decreases locally. Of course, should these trends continue, South African motorists may be in for larger price decreases by the time November rolls around. We’ll continue to update readers throughout the month to help them better prepare by the time November rolls around.
Here are the petrol and diesel price predictions (so far) for November 2025:
