On Wednesday, 1 October, the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) will officially adjust the country’s petrol, diesel, and paraffin prices — though we should mention that it hasn’t announced what these will look like yet. That’ll most likely come later today or tomorrow, leaving those affected plenty of time to make their way to the nearest garage before that time. Fortunately, most drivers will want to wait ’til Wednesday.
Keep those fingers crossed, petrol drivers
According to data captured by the Central Energy Fund (CEF) late last week, it appears that only some petrol buyers will face a relatively minor price hike, while the rest of the fuel grades will be treated to similarly minor price decreases. You won’t hear us complaining anytime soon, particularly after the CEF’s predictions last week told a different, more expensive story for South Africa’s petrol drivers.
While the official adjustments from the DMRE may not match the CEF’s figures below exactly, they will likely turn out to be very similar. The CEF arrives at the figures below by looking at the economic factors that can influence the price of fuel. It comes to a daily conclusion based on the average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate and the average international price of oil over any given period in the past month.

That means the figures will coincide closely with the DMRE’s official adjustments, due out later today or tomorrow. If you’re a Petrol 95 driver, you may want to head to the nearest station to fill up while prices are still on the lower side. As for the rest, wait. Still, it’s best to wait for the DMRE’s official say-so before that happens.
That’s because the CEF, unfortunately, cannot account for the DMRE’s Self-Adjusting Slate Levy in the below predictions. While this hasn’t influenced the price of fuel for months, there’s no telling when it will come into play again — adding cost to the price of fuel locally, and throwing the CEF’s predictions off.
Here are the petrol and diesel price predictions (so far) for October 2025:
- Petrol 93: decrease of 05 cents per litre (R0.05)
- Petrol 95: increase of 10 cents per litre (R0.10)
- Diesel 0.05%: decrease of 10 cents per litre (R0.10)
- Diesel 0.005%: decrease of 07 cents per litre (R0.07)
- Illuminating Paraffin: decrease of 11 cents per litre (R0.11)

Any news on the LPG price? A major source of energy in most homes these days, is gas. We go as far as paraffin, yet don’t seem to report on gas price adjustments. Please & thank you.
