YouTube is finally bringing the essential ‘jump ahead’ feature to its TV app, at long last. The new feature appeared on the video-sharing platform’s support page and has already been spotted in the wild by Android Authority.
YouTube gives TV the jump ahead
It’s quite crazy that premium subscribers haven’t had access to the jump ahead feature until now. Even crazier considering that the primary mode of viewing the platform in America is TV. The feature has been a boon for mobile app viewers who want to skip things like sponsorship segments and lengthy b-roll, and has finally arrived for TV viewers worldwide.
Premium subscribers on mobile bring up the jump ahead cursor by double-tapping the forward button. On TV, viewers only need to press the right arrow on their remote to see a “jumping over commonly skipped section” cursor; another press will take them there. The algorithm will automatically skip past a frequently skipped section of a video without the need for lengthy fast-forwarding or manually seeking a spot on the progress bar.
Though YouTube‘s support page confirms that the feature has now been officially rolled out, the full extent of the rollout is unclear. The feature has only been spotted on some TVs, and will likely take some time to reach all the TVs of the world — provided you (or a friend) are paying for YouTube Premium, of course.
