Video game adaptations are all the rage right now, whether it’s HBO’s The Last of Us or Amazon’s Fallout series. Netflix is hoping to cash in on that cash cow (assuming you ignore Arcane) and finally put that Ubisoft partnership to good use. The streamer has officially greenlit an Assassin’s Creed live-action adaptation for the small screen. Because that worked out for Ubisoft and Michael Fassbender so well last time, right?
Just skip right to the good stuff, yeah?
Snark aside, there’s a small shot this one will turn out to be good. That won’t factor into Netflix’s decision to cancel it mid-way through, but still. It’s enlisted the talents of Roberto Patino (yay) and David Wiener (nay) to serve as the series’ creators, showrunners, and executive producers. Patino is best known for helping write on shows like Sons of Anarchy and Westworld, while Wiener was most recently a writer/producer for Halo.
It’s still unclear how the creators will go about adapting the long-running series, which has plenty of stories to pick and choose from. Here’s hoping it’ll get right into the good stuff, like Assassin’s Creed 2 or Black Flag. As long as they can lessen the early games’ worst elements — Abstergo — we’ll be happy with whatever it offers up.

“Assassin’s Creed is a high-octane thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will,” the show’s vague description reads. “The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.”
It’s probably bodes well that Netflix didn’t immediately churn out something Assassin’s Creed-related after it signed a deal with Ubisoft in 2020, instead taking the better part of five years just to announce the thing. There’s still no release date (or even year) confirmed, and the same goes for casting announcements. Don’t expect news anytime soon, in other words.
